The message below was emailed to Tennessee Agriculture Teachers on May 12, 2015 by State Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Consultant Steve Gass.

The division of college and career readiness is a strong believer in high quality professional development grounded in relevant teacher content. We appreciate the Tennessee Association of Agriculture Educator’s (TAAE) commitment to this belief and are pleased with their establishment of the inaugural TAAE Convention, specifically designed for classroom content, SAE, and FFA.  We think this will be a strong complement to the sessions offered at the Institute for CTE Educators and encourage CTE directors to send their Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources teachers to both events for a comprehensive professional learning experience.

We recognize, however, that for our smaller districts it may be cost prohibitive to send a teacher to both the Institute for CTE Educators and the TAAE Convention. It is for this reason that the division of college and career readiness is offering $500 supplemental stipends to any LEA that has a one or two Agriculture teacher program.
1) Who is eligible?
    - LEAs who have up to two Agriculture teachers.
o   A list of LEAs meeting this criteria is attached here.

2) How much can an LEA receive?
    - An eligible LEA who sends its teacher(s) to both the Institute for CTE Educators and the TAAE Convention can receive $500, for a maximum award of $1,000 per LEA.

3) How do LEAs receive the supplemental stipend?
     - LEAs who are eligible must have their Agriculture teachers attend both the Institute for CTE Educators and the TAAE Convention.
O  Attendance at the Institute for CTE Educators requires attendance on July 7-8 for a minimum of seven sessions per day.
O  Attendance at the TAAE Convention requires attendance for all three days, July 20-22.

4) An application will be released on Aug. 7, 2015 for eligible LEAs to apply. The CTE director must fill out the application and submit it by 5 p.m. CDT on Aug. 17, 2015.

Please note that the above stated attendance requirements must be met. If they are not, then the LEA will not receive the stipend.

We hope these supplemental stipends will better equip LEAs to send their Agriculture teachers to these events. If your LEA is eligible for this supplemental stipend, contact your CTE Director for additional information.
